The Fashion Industry is notorious for being one of the largest polluters and has a disastrous impact on our environment [Read more here]. Being more aware of the clothes we buy and cutting down fast fashion purchases can help us take a step closer to a cleaner, as well as greener future. While brainstorming for solutions to this global crisis, we came up with FashionKnowa.

The main purpose of this project is to determine whether the fabric used in a piece of clothing is sustainable or not.
The basic idea behind this is that the user uploads a picture of the label on their clothing which contains information about the fabric(s) used. The picture content is converted to text by using the python OCR library, PyTesseract. The obtained text is analyzed to check if there is any fabric that is non-sustainable along with the respective percentages.
If the percentage is on the higher side, we mark the apparel as non-green. If majority of the apparel is made from sustainable fabric(s), we mark the apparel as green. We also added the functionality of providing a link to clothing from online shopping websites from which we extract the fabrics used and determined how green they are. Thus, helping shoppers make informed and sustainable fashion choices both online and offline.
